Goucher Men’s Lacrosse needed to win on Saturday April 28, or their season would come to an abrupt end.

On Saturday, Goucher welcomed the Moravian College Greyhounds along with many Goucher Alumni and Students for Blue and Gold Weekend, and the team’s Senior Day. The turnout for the game was the biggest this team has seen in a long time.

Goucher opened the game taking a 2-1 lead with goals from senior Jaryd Hartzell and Mason Gorman, respectively. Goucher would end the first quarter with a 3-1 lead over the Greyhounds with a goal from senior Pierce Bailey. The second quarter was what seemed like to be the early dagger to the Greyhounds as the Gophers received goals from sophomore Andrew Sade (4), junior Zephan Harnish (1), junior Grant LaSorda (1), and yet another goal from Gorman (2). This would send the game to half time with a 10-3 advantage to the Gophers even after a pair of Moravian goals.

The pace of the third quarter of play grew slower as Moravian scored one goal, the only goal of the quarter. The fourth quarter started off with another goal from Bailey (2), followed by senior Derek Bitzer’s first goal of the game and LaSorda (2) rounded off the Gophers’ goals for the day. Moravian would end up scoring the last two goals of the game with the final score being 13-6 in favor of Goucher.

With this win, the Goucher Gophers secured the number 3 seed in the Landmark conference playoffs, their first appearance since 2014, where they will face Elizabethtown where they lost 9-8 in overtime earlier this year. The game will take place at Elizabethtown on Wednesday, May 2 at 4:00. A win here would send the Gophers back to the Landmark Championship game for the first time since they lost to Susquehanna in 2014.
